资源简介:
"Mamre: Br. Jonkers [=Jonker(?)], farbiger Geistlicher im Ruhestand, jetzt auf dem Büro der politisch. Gemeine tätig." ("Mamre: Br[other] Jonkers [=Jonker(?)], retired colored clergyman, now active at the office of the political congregation."). The picture shows an elderly man of mixed origin from the side. He wears an old jacket and a white shirt. His hair and beard are white. He stands in front of a dark colored door. Written on the card board: "P. Theile, 1934."; The picture probably shows Josua Jonker (1851, Elim - 1935, Mamre) who was a voluntary evangelist of the Moravian mission and a teacher at Goedverwacht as well as Genadendal. He was promoted to the post of assistant minister and in 1901 ordained as minister. After 1903/04 he served as school principal and minister in Maitland until 1907. In 1902 he, together with two other South African helpers, namely Dietrich and Oppelt, bought the farm Karwyderskraal near Caledon which turned out to be uneconomical enterprise. He served as minister in Mamre from 1907-1913 and in Pella from 1913-1920.
