This statistic displays several major characteristics of nonneonatal and nonmaternal hospital stays for U.S.. children, aged 0 to 17 years, in 2012. During this year, the average length of stay for children was 4.2 days for nonneonatal and nonmaternal hospitalizations. Hospitalizations among children seem to have become more common among children with chronic conditions. Majority of hospitalizations among children were infants and newborns.
