Wastewater Multi-Omics Time Series

Anaerobic digestion (AD) of municipal mixed sludge is a microbe mediated process that produces renewable natural gas (RNG), a non-fossil energy resource composed primarily of methane. A major goal of AD research is to map metabolic interactions between the microbes that rout carbon and electrons into RNG, with the goal of increasing RNG yields and improving the economics of waste resource recovery. Here, we present a two-year time series assessing temporal microbial community structure and function in relation to RNG production at an industrial-scale wastewater treatment plant under multiple operating configurations.
