Video clips for an observation of ground latrine use by invasive raccoon in Japan

<b>Overview</b>An observation case of invasive Northern raccoon (<i>Procyon lotor</i>) latrine found directly on the ground surface, observed through camera trapping. All video clips (.mp4) that observed raccoons' defecations at the latrine site are compiled (n = 12). Furthermore, video clips of behavioral resopnses to raccoon latrine by native carnivores (n = 3), such as red fox (<i>Vulpes vulpes</i>) and raccoon god (<i>Nyctereutes procyonoides</i>), as well as datasheet for camera trapping records (.csv) and its metadata (.docx) are also compiled.<br><b>Methods</b>Camera trapping was conducted in an ecological garden (ca. 2.2 ha) at the Center for Environmental Science in Saitama, Kazo-shi, Saitama Prefecture, eastern Japan (36°05´N, 139°33´E). A passive infrared camera (TrophyCam 24 MP, Bushnell Inc.) with a trigger speed of 0.3 s was used. The camera was programmed to take an image, followed by a 1-min video clip upon detection, with a 1-min delay between triggers. It was mounted on a tree 0.5 m above ground in a small forest dominated by <i>Machilus thunbergii</i>, without any bait or lures. The monitoring period lasted from November 5, 2024, to March 14, 2025. Batteries were changed, and memory cards were replaced every 3 weeks during the study period.
