PREVENTION OF ORAL MUCOSAL DISEASES: A REVIEW OF EPIDEMIOLOGICAL DATA AND PROPHYLACTIC STRATEGIES

The oral mucosa is susceptible to various inflammatory diseases, and due to the similarity of their clinical and histological characteristics, differential diagnosis may be challenging. Clinical correlation is of paramount importance for accurate diagnosis. Inflammatory diseases of the oral mucosa are pathological processes arising from external and internal causes, including mechanical injuries, chemical agents, improper oral hygiene, and viral infections of the oral cavity. When inflammation develops in the oral cavity, patients experience pain, discomfort, and difficulties in eating and speaking. Timely consultation with a physician and appropriate treatment of oral mucosal diseases enable the avoidance and resolution of serious complications. This article discusses the prevention of oral mucosal diseases.
