Irrigated Areas in 2025 across the Lake Balkhash Basin, Kazakhstan

This dataset contains irrigation maps for agricultural zones located within the Balkhash Lake basin, Kazakhstan, for the year 2025. The maps are provided as shapefiles representing agricultural parcels classified according to their irrigation status. The dataset was produced by INRAE within the framework of the FEXTE project, “Multidisciplinary Study of Water Resources in the Balkhash Lake Watershed”, funded by the French Development Agency (AFD – Agence Française de Développement). Irrigation mapping was derived from Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 satellite imagery using a combination of agricultural parcel segmentation, vegetation index time-series analysis, rule-based classification, and expert photo-interpretation.
