Replication Data for: GHG Shopper
收藏资源简介:
GHG Shopper is a free mobile application designed to empower stakeholders—particularly consumers and employees—to influence companies’ climate decision making. While consumers often express and demonstrate a willingness to pay for \"green\" products, they currently lack a reliable information system to distinguish low-carbon-emission companies from those falsely claiming to be low-carbon-emission companies. GHG Shopper ranks companies within industry by their scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity and makes the rankings accessible by brand name. GHG Shopper provides a fully transparent stakeholder-focused alternative to existing investor-focused ESG rating and ranking systems. The Essay addresses several key critiques of GHG emissions intensity as a ranking metric, including the exclusion of Scope 3 emissions, the impact of economies of scale on reporting, and the inherent inaccuracies of market-based reporting via Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). By making GHG emission data accessible and usable at the point of purchase, GHG Shopper enables shoppers to shift revenues from high-emissions companies to low-emissions companies and from non-reporting companies to reporting companies. Ultimately, the project serves as a test of whether collective stakeholder pressure can compel corporations to measure, report, and significantly reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
