Temporal-Spectral Analysis of BHC LMC X-1 comma LMC X-3

We propose XMM EPIC CCD observations in timing mode of theBlack Hole Candidates (BHC) LMC X1 and LMC X3. Our goal is to probe the spatial structure of the Xray emittinghot coronae by the combined temporalspectral analysis of time lags between different energy bands in the XMM range as a function of the Fourier frequency. These lags appear to be at odds with predictions of accretion disk models. The unique properties of XMM allow the search for a transition in the lag sign from positive to negative at E < 2keV, thus identifying the source of soft photons, whose Comptonization gives rise to the observed Xray spectra and timing properties in these objests. This study will thus complement those carried out by RXTE at exclusively high (> 2 keV) Xray energies. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
