VPRS 14498 Index to Correspondence Files, Multiple Number System

This series comprises an index to correspondence files maintained by the City of Moorabbin (VA 656). The function of the index was to provide an effective means for the City of Moorabbin to access their correspondence files.This index captured the code for the subject under which VPRS 14492 Correspondence Files, Multiple Number system, had been filed so that they could be identified quickly. Correspondence files were registered with a multiple number code based on a subject classification system. Correspondence files were provided with the main subject number, and a further number which was also subject based and served to further refine and identify more specifically the particular area or subject covered by the file. Hyphenated numbers represent part numbers. The correspondence file number and file titles were entered in the index under the general subject code in alphabetical order by the subject of the file.
