VPRS 16200 Supreme Court Interstate Adoption Register (Born in Victoria and Adopted Interstate)

This series contains the register of adoption orders received by the Prothonotary of the Supreme Court of Victoria for children born in Victoria and adopted Interstate, as well as any associated correspondence. Correspondence received from other state authorities was then forwarded to the Office of the Government Statist and Actuary (VA 989), and from 1983 the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (VA 983). The Adoption of Children Amending Act 1942 and equivalent acts in other jurisdictions authorised the transmission of copies of adoption orders made in other states or territories concerning children born in Victoria. Under reciprocal agreements entered into between States and Territories of the Commonwealth, the Supreme Court (through the Prothonotary) was responsible for receiving copies of adoption orders from the respective State agencies responsible for the administration of adoptions.
