Multiple sympatric populations of short-finned pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) in the Caribbean Sea inferred from mtDNA and genomic analyses

Here, we investigated the population structure, demographic parameters, and genetic diversity of the short-finned pilot whale (Globicephala macrorhynchus) from the Caribbean Sea. RADseq was performed for SNP genotyping (n = 94 individuals). Structure analysis by Bayesian inference, multivariate analysis, and a Maximum likelihood phylogeographic reconstruction were used to identify population structure. Additionally, the control region of the mtDNA was sequenced to corroborate the nuclear patterns, identify haplotypes and calculate genetic diversity.
