Streptococcus pyogenes is a strict human pathogen causing a wide range of disease. We noticed several inconsistencies in the latest genome assembly of Streptococcus pyogenes M1 GAS and therefore performed de novo hybrid assembly. Genomic DNA was extracted from a pure culture, and whole-genome sequencing was performed using both long-read (MinION) and short-read (Illumina) sequencing. Our hybrid genome assembly improves the genome sequence.
