The purpose of the study was to assess the differences between the gut microbiomes of piglets with diarrhoea and healthy animals. We also investigated the association between the composition of the intestinal bacterial community and the susceptibility of piglets to diarrhoea. For this, we studied the composition of the microbiome in four sections of the piglet intestine (ileum, cecum, colon, and rectum) using 16S rRNA gene sequencing on the Ion Torrent PGM platform.
