Panagrolaimus sp. k MP-2021 isolate:S50751 Genome sequencing and assembly

When environmental conditions are severe (e.g. lack of water or oxygen, extremely low temperature or high salinity), some organisms can transition into a state of cryptobiosis (hidden life). This transition is reversible and requires execution of complex genetic and biochemical programs. Recently, several nematode and bdelloid rotifer individuals have been reanimated from northeastern Siberian permafrost, with preliminary analysis indicating the nematodes belong to the Panagrolaimus genera. Phylogenetic inference based on our high-quality genome assembly and a detailed morphological analysis of descendants from the reanimated nematode demonstrate that they belong to a undescribed species, which we named Panagrolaimus kolymaensis.
