Phytoextraction of the Soils from the East of Yunnan Province with a High Cadmium Geological Background and Its Effect on Rice Cadmium Uptake

This research was conducted to investigate cadmium (Cd) phytoextraction efficiency of the high geological background soils from Shilin, Fuyuan, and Luoping in Yunnan Province by the Cd/zinc (Zn) hyperaccumulator Sedum plumbizincicola and its effect on plant growth and Cd uptake by rice (Oryza sativa). The results and data included: (1) the dry biomass and Cd/Zn concentrations in shoots of S. plumbizincicola grown in the high Cd geological background soils, (2) effects of phytoextraction with three crops of S. plumbizincicola on the biomass and Cd/Zn uptake by rice grown in the high Cd geological background soils, and (3) different water management on the biomass and Cd/Zn concentrations of rice. These results would provide a theoretical basis and technical support for reducing total Cd and available Cd in soils and thereby safe production of the high geological background soils.
