Chrysanthemum morifolium black leaf spot is a economically significant disease that can cause considerable production and quality losses in this traditional Chinese medicinal and decorative plant. The disease is caused by the necrotrophic fungus Alternaria alternata, a small-spored fungal pathogen that is widely dispersed in the environment. In this report, we presented the draft whole-genome sequencing of the A. alternata strain hznu325 that caused black leaf spot on C. morifolium. The assembly is made up of 285 contigs with a genomic size of 33.7Mb. Furthermore, we identified 547 carbohydrate-active enzymes, 1049 secreted proteins, and 30 secondary metabolite gene clusters, which may be linked to the pathogenicity of this pathogen. This genome resource will aid researchers in better understanding the virulence mechanisms of this commercially important fungal pathogen in the future.
