Users can view tables and maps to gather data on oral health in the United States. Background The National Oral Health Surveillance System is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Division of Oral Health. The purpose of NOHSS is to monitor oral health and to track oral health indicators on a state and national level. Oral health indicators include: dental visits, teeth cleaning, complete tooth loss, lost 6 or more teeth, fluoridation status, cancer of the oral cavity, caries experiences, untreated tooth decay, and dental sealants. User F unctionality Users click on the oral health indicator of interest and a table is generated. Users can sort tables by state or by percentages. Some indicators allow users to view information on a map. Information is available for: adults over 18 years old, adults over 65 years old, or children in the third grade. Users can view data by the following demographics: age group, education level, sex (gender), income group or race (white, black, Hispanic, other, or multiracial). Data N otes The data years reported vary by state, with the most recent from 2008. Data sources include the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) and State Oral Health Surveys. Data is available on a national and state level.
