High-concentrate diets supplemented with phytogenic compounds or autolyzed yeast modulates bacterial community and fermentation parameters in dry cows

The feeding of high-concentrate diets in cattle leads to rumen microbial imbalance and subsequently to health disorders. This study aimed to establish the effects of an intermittent high-concentrate feeding and the supplementation of phytogenic and autolyzed yeast feed additives on the rumen bacteria community and fermentation. The study showed that high-concentrate feeding clearly impacted the rumen microbiome and that both feed additives are promising modulatory tools for the bacterial community and their fermentation products especially when pH was lowest.
