Characterization and organelle genome sequencing of Neoporphyra species from Gulf of California

This project aims to characterize genetic diversity and organelle genome architecture of Neoporphyra species distributed along the Gulf of California. By sequencing high-quality chloroplast and mitochondrial genomes, as well as associated nuclear reads, we seek to improve taxonomic resolution within the group and generate reference genomic resources for future phylogenomic, biogeographic, and conservation studies. The project will also support ongoing efforts to clarify species boundaries in Eastern Pacific Bangiales and to document endemic lineages that may play key ecological roles in coastal ecosystems. The data produced here will provide a foundational genomic framework for regional biodiversity assessments and comparative analyses across Neoporphyra and related taxa.
