This file originated from the the US Census TIGER County Boundary data. Additional attributes were added in response to common information requested by State of Iowa staff and citizens. Fields contained within this data: COUNTYNS - County Name Identifier from USGS Geographic Name Information System (GNIS)GEOID - Census State and County FIPS Codes IADOMID - State of Iowa Department of Management County number IADOMIDPAD - State of Iowa Department of Management County number with padding to two characters NAME - County Name DISPLAYNAME - County Name + “County” AREALANDMI2 - Area of land in Square Miles AREAWATERMI2 - Area of water in square Miles AREATOTALMI2 - Total area in county in square Miles ACS5YRHOUSEHOLDS - US Census American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year (2023) Household estimates CEN2020POP - US Census 2020 Decennial Population URBANPOP - US Census 2020 Decennial Urban Population, determined by Census to be in an Urban Areas(UA 2,000+ people). PERURBAN - Percent of population within the county that was determined be within an Urban Area (UA) URBANRURAL - Values are either urban county (urban population greater than or equal to 50%) or rural county (urban population less than 50%) The State of Iowa also maintains two other county boundary datasets that may be more appropriate based on different use cases. The Iowa DNR County Boundaries align more closely with the public land survey system (PLSS), where as the Iowa DOT maintains a county boundary dataset that has been altered to for the inventory and allocation of road funding to counties.
