Following a kite through life

Following a kite through life: Embodying Cultural Diversity Between East and West Yaqing Hou This research story begins with a kite emerging from my childhood recollections, transporting me into the in-between space of Eastern and Western cultures. As I follow its movement through memory, growth, migration, and artistic journey, research unfolds as a living inquiry shaped by relation, uncertainty, and becoming. Between wind and string, the kite gradually becomes an a/r/tographic metaphor for how I explore, think, feel, grow, and move through this in-between space as an artist, researcher, and teacher. Through its drifting, tension, and release, cultural diversity is revealed not as something fixed or settled but as something continually fluid, echoing the community and relational process of becoming across cultures.
