Dissolved organic carbon and total dissolved nitrogen measurements from CTD niskin collected depth profiles along the tropical and subtropical North and South Atlantic Ocean on GEOTRACES cruise D361.

This dataset contains measurements of seawater dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and total dissolved nitrogen (TDN) from the tropical and subtropical Atlantic. Samples were collected during RRS Discovery cruise D361, between February and March 2011, as part of the GEOTRACES research programme. Samples for DOC/TDN analysis were collected from the water samplers (10L Niskin bottles from the CTD rosette) via silicone tubing, following established best-practice protocols (Dickson et al., 2007). Samples between the surface and 250m were filtered through a precombusted GF/F filter and transferred onto precombusted 20ml glass ampoules. Samples below 250m were transferred directly from the niskin to the precombusted glass ampoules without filtering. All bottles/ampoules were given a unique identifier with the CTD and niskin bottle numbers. Samples were analysed at the National Oceanography Centre (University of Southampton, UK) after completion of the research cruise.
