XMM-NEWTON STUDIES OF UNIDENTIFIED X-RAY SOURCES IN THE GALACTIC BULGE

We propose to study a complete Xray sample in the luminosity of 0.55 x 10^35erg/s in the Galactic bulge, containing 10 unidentified sources detected in theROSAT All Sky Survey. Our goal is to obtain, for the first time, a clear pictureabout Xray populations in the bulge with detailed Xray spectroscopic studiesof these sources. This is a new step toward understanding the formation historyof the bulge, and hence that of galaxies with various Hubble sequences in theuniverse. Furthermore, because the luminosity range we observe corresponds to amissing link.. region ever studied for a neutron star or blackhole Xraybinary, our results are also unique to test accretion disk theories atintermediate mass accretion rates. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
