北极海冰对于区域和全球气候变化研究具有极其重要的意义。卫星观测表明,在过去的四十年里,北极海冰覆盖范围一直在缩减。然而,由于海冰厚度无法通过卫星遥感方法直接测量,对北极海冰厚度长期变化的关注相对较少。为此,基于ERS-2、Envisat和CryoSat-2多源雷达测高数据,生产了5km分辨率的北极海冰厚度的逐月数据产品。为确保海冰厚度反演的准确性,我们提出了一种全新的数据处理流程,包括冰间水道检测、冰面高度转换为厚度以及任务间偏差校正。最终,我们得以生成 1995 年 10 月至 2023 年 12 月期间北极海冰冻结期月平均冰厚产品。利用仰视声呐和“冰桥行动”(OIB)的机载激光测高数据,以及七种公开发布的北极海冰厚度数据产品对本产品精度进行了验证。验证结果表明,本产品的精度在 0.2 ~0.4 m。本产品可为预测北极海冰未来演变趋势提供数据源和科学参考,为北极航道的开发和利用提供支撑和保障。
Arctic sea ice is of paramount significance for regional and global climate change research. Satellite observations have shown that Arctic sea ice extent has been declining over the past four decades. However, sea ice thickness cannot be directly measured via satellite remote sensing, so relatively less attention has been paid to long-term changes in Arctic sea ice thickness. To address this gap, we developed a monthly Arctic sea ice thickness dataset at 5 km resolution using multi-source radar altimetry data from ERS-2, Envisat, and CryoSat-2. To ensure the accuracy of sea ice thickness inversion, we proposed a novel data processing workflow, which includes lead detection, conversion of ice surface elevation to thickness, and inter-mission bias correction. Ultimately, we generated a monthly mean sea ice thickness product for the Arctic sea ice freeze season from October 1995 to December 2023. The accuracy of this product was validated using upward-looking sonar data, airborne laser altimetry data from Operation IceBridge (OIB), and seven publicly released Arctic sea ice thickness datasets. Validation results show that the accuracy of this product ranges from 0.2 to 0.4 m. This product can provide data sources and scientific references for predicting the future evolution trends of Arctic sea ice, and support and guarantee the development and utilization of Arctic shipping lanes.
