Mesoamerican Reef Coastal Marine Protected Area Management Plan Review and Codebook

We identified 56 coastal marine protected areas in the Mesoamerican Reef Ecoregion (MAR) using regional data sources from the Healthy Reefs for Healthy People and the authors’ regional knowledge. For each site with accessible plans, we reviewed both the most recent and earliest plans when available, or the single plan if only one existed. Management plans were reviewed in full text using a standardized codebook. The variables presented here include (1) management plan <i>length</i>, (2) management approaches (<i>adaptive management, integrated management, and resilience</i>), (3) ecosystem actions (<i>mangrove, seagrass, reef</i>) (4) <i>fish and fisheries</i> or <i>charismatic megafauna </i>actions, (5) community or stakeholder engagement actions (<i>community engagement, gender, local ecological knowledge, and scientist engagement)</i>, and (6)<i> references cited</i> in the management plan. <br><br>
