Texts in Greek and Coptic dating from the Byzantine period on papyrus contained in the collection of the Museum of Ancient Cultures at Macquarie University

The Museum of Ancient Cultures at Macquarie University, Sydney, holds some 700 papyri, mainly in Greek, but also in other languages and scripts, such as Demotic and Coptic (Egyptian). Most are written on papyrus, but the collection also includes some texts on ostraca (potsherd), parchment, and wood. Most of the texts date from the 3rd century BC to the 8th century AD. The Museum holds a number of texts from the early Byzantine period (300 CE-800 CE). These are written on papyrus in Greek and Coptic (Egyptian) and come from various locations throughout Egypt.
