Teen Driver Crashes: Exposure Results from SHRP 2 Naturalistic Driving Study

Project Description This dataset was created in support of a study to evaluate teen drivers exposure to driving (hours traveled or vehicle miles traveled) as well as crash rates and contributing factors, both behavioral and environmental, by geographic location. Data Request Scope This dataset consisted of: trip summary data, participant data, event data, and vehicle data for SHRP 2 primary drivers aged 16-19 years and 35-54 years. Data Specification The following variables were delivered: Trip Summary Table: Trip ID, Participant ID, Trip Distance, Trip DurationDay Number in Study, Trip Start Month Local, Trip start local time hour of day, and Trip Day of week. Vehicle database: Participant ID, Site location, and Vehicle class. Driver History Questionnaire: Participant ID, Average annual mileage, Years Driving, and Training. Driver Demographic Questionnaire: Participant ID, Gender, Age Group, Participant Receive License, and Driver Mileage Last Year. Event Database: Participant ID, Event ID, Trip ID, Event Severity 1/2/3 = Crash; Near-Crash; Baseline, Incident type 1 and 2, Event nature 1 and 2, Crash severity 1 and 2, Driver Behavior 1/2/3, Secondary Task 1/2/3, Driver impairment, Lighting, Relation to junction, Road type, Traffic density, Weather, Seatbelt Use, Visual Obstructions, Vehicle contributing factors, Road surface condition, Contiguous travel lanes, Through travel lanes, Traffic control, Alignment, Grade, Traffic flow, and Locality.
