The competition between ammonia-oxidizing archaea and bacteria was investigated in continuous culture using enrichment cultures of the ammonia oxidizers. Parallel to the abundance of AOA and AOB we determined the community composition of the heterotrophic bacteria coexisting with the ammonia oxidizers. This project gives an insight into the impact of the ammonia oxidizers on the heterotrophic communities.
