Philosamia ricini genome sequencing and assembly

Philosamia ricini (Taxonomy ID: 63990), also known as the eri silk moth, is a non-mulberry silk moth species belonging to the Lepidoptera Saturniidae family. P. ricini, commonly known as Samia cynthia ricini, belongs to the Samia genus. P. ricini has been fully domesticated non-mulberry silkworm for mass production of eri silk. Despite the considerable economic profit and benefit of P. ricini, except a mitochondrial genome, the genomic information available for this species is limited. Here we report a draft genome sequence for P. ricini that is expected to facilitate and expand its use in lepidopteran genome evolution.
