Rapid whole genome sequencing of hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae from a Chinese migrant presenting with liver abscesses, pneumonia and meningitis

Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (hvKp) causes severe infections in immunocompetent individuals. We report a patient who presented with disseminated infection including pneumonia, liver abscesses and meningitis. Klebsiella pneumoniae was isolated from multiple sites. Sequencing using a portable nanopore-based device further characterised the isolate as a ST23, serotype K1 hypervirulent strain.
