SeaWiFS Bio-Optical Archive and Storage System (SeaBASS): In Situ Oceanographic and Atmospheric Bio-Optical Data

SeaBASS serves as the official in situ data repository for the NASA Ocean
Biology Processing Group (OBPG), which maintains responsibility for all NASA
ocean color and sea surface temperature satellite data processing and
validation. These radiometric and biogeophysical data facilitate the
bio-optical algorithm development and satellite data product validation
activities conducted by the OBPG and larger oceanographic community. These
data are also used in support of international protocol workshops, data merger
and assimilation studies, and time-series analyses.

Data were contributed by participants in the NASA SeaWiFS (Sea-viewing Wide
Field-of-view Sensor) Project, NASA SIMBIOS (Sensor Intercomparison and Merger
for Biological and Interdisciplinary Oceanic Studies) Project, and NASA Ocean
Biology and Biogeochemstry Program, and by numerous voluntary data
contributors.
