The Workshop Co-ordination Committee held monthly meetings to discuss matters relating to the operation of the railway workshops. They were attended by senior Department of Railways administrative staff, engineering representatives from the Secretariat, Way and Works Branch, Mechanical Branch, Signal and Telegraph Branch, and Electrical Branch, and the Stores Supervisor, Stores Branch.Matters discussed included the manufacture of equipment, maintenance of plant machinery, the acquisition, disposal, and provision of quarterly inventory lists of machine tools, collection and protection of scrap metals, co-ordinated use of staff and surplus materials, production schedules, buildings and related structures, and general administrative matters. At the meeting held on 13 August 1957, the Chairman noted that the Committee had been operating for 12 months. At the conclusion of the meeting held on 10 September 1957 it was decided that the next meeting would be held on 17 October 1957, but minutes for this and any subsequent meetings do not appear to have survived.Custody HistoryFrom 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an ‘in house archives’ consisting of the archival records of the Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000. When the decision was made to close the ‘State Rail Archives’ the parts of the collection that were required as State archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered.This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection where it was identified as series R95. It may have been viewed in the State Rail Archives as series R95 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.
