VPRS 5737 General Correspondence Files

In 1901, the first opening of the Commonwealth Parliament by the Duke of York took place at the Exhibition Buildings. The new Parliament was to subsequently meet at the Victorian Parliament House until the move to Canberra in 1927.This series consists of the General Correspondence Files as kept by the General Secretary (Mr Watson) to VA 4186 Cabinet Sub-Committee for Commonwealth celebrations. Files contain details of guest lists for the events and for the opening of the Commonwealth Parliament, details of accommodation arrangements made for visitors and details of refurbishment's to premises to accommodate distinguished guests as well as for arrangements for the actual events for which the Committee was responsible.
