资源简介:
<p>In aquatic ecosystems, the time an individual spawns (reproductive phenology) often has large implications for the survival of its offspring. Here we tested whether individual size affects reproductive phenology in walleye (<em>Sander vitreus</em>). To do so, we evaluated effect sizes of linear correlations between walleye total length and date of capture during their spawning season. We extracted correlations from multiple state agencies' annual walleye spawning surveys, and from angler capture (creel) reports, then used meta-analysis methods to determine generality and significance of the trend. Through synthesis of walleye spawning data throughout the Great Lakes region since 1947, we demonstrated a significant effect that larger walleye of both sexes were generally captured earlier by agencies and anglers while spawning. </p>
