Microbiome analysis of prostate cancer patients treated with androgen deprivation therapy.

Recently, some reports show testosterone, which is one of the sex steroids, is correlated with gut microbiota, while, the understanding is not unclear. Stool samples that were taken from 25 patients who had received androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer were collected before and 1, 4, 12, and 24 weeks after ADT and stored at -80 degrees Celsius until DNA extraction. After extracting bacterial DNA in the stool, we performed microbiome analysis based on 16S rRNA gene of the microbiota. Additionally, we performed the metabolome analysis with CE-TOFMS for metabolites in the stool. We found declining of alpha diversity, and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) was negatively associated with some microbes.
