资源简介:
This collection comprises images from a Level 2 Descriptive Historic Building Recording of a section of boundary wall at St Marys Church in Woodbridge, Suffolk. The work was carried out by Cotswold Archaeology in September 2024. The church is a Grade I Listed Building and the walls, entrance piers and gates are Grade II Listed. The structure subject to assessment comprises the southeast part of the churchyard boundary wall, which has become unsafe and is subject to stabilisation works. The recording also includes the gate piers located to the east of the churchyard, and a collection of burial markers. The purpose of the Historic Building Recording is to make a permanent record of the structure prior to works proceeding. The recording has identified that the wall contains areas of possible mid-16th century fabric, with numerous repairs throughout the 18th-20th century. Its fabric contains likely reused flint and rubble from the priory, with bricks consistent in size with that of the 16th century to early 17th century, in addition to later raking brick coping. The wall represents a composite structure, with its origins in the 16th century but heavily modified and extended during the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The gate piers at the eastern extent of the churchyard are likely of 18th century construction, built from red brick with stone coping. A selection of burial markers subject to recording are located within the churchyard, most of which likely date to the 18th century.
