Escherichia coli is one of the most important pathogens isolated from extraintestinal infection worldwide. Extraintestinal Pathogenic E. coli (ExPEC) could be classified depending on the isolation source, but only those strains harboring specific virulence factors can be considered pathogenic. Most E. coli strains isolated from extraintestinal infections that lack the recognized virulence factors are considered opportunist pathogens, and their virulence properties are neglected. This project aims to sequence and produce data to help the development of alternative therapies for extraintestinal infection caused by unconventional pathogenic E. coli and enlarge the knowledge about virulence.
