The use of dietary supplements has become an alternative to alleviate the complications in many chronic conditions and diseases such as type 2 diabetes. Numerous health benefits for tocotrienol diet supplementation have been reported, but no study had evaluated the effect of tocotrienol on the gut microbiome in a high-fat diet-induced type 2 diabetes animal model. In this project, we have characterized the fecal bacterial community of mice fed on low-fat diet, high-fat diet, high-fat diet supplemented with metformin, and high-fat diet supplemented with tocotrienol at 200, 400, 800, and 1600 mg/kg. This was done using 16S rRNA gene sequences.
