XMM Observation of GX 340+0: study of the Fe Kalpha region

We propose to observe with XMMNewton the Z source GXvirgul340+0 for 40 ks. A broademission feature compatible with a highly ionized iron line has been detectedboth in BeppoSAX and in Chandra observations of the source. The Chandra spectrumsuggests that the line might be of relativistic origin, but does not allow todiscriminate between Compton and relativistic broadening of the line. Thesuperior collecting area at the iron line energy of XMMNewton is required togive a definitive answer to the problem of the origin of this broad line. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
