Part-Time Working Men and Househusbands (2nd Wave)

Follow-up survey of part-time working men and househusbands.
Description of the company or domestic situation.

Topics: move since first interview and reasons for move; change of
partnership situation since first interview; pregnancy of partner or
birth of child in the last year; desire for children; possession of
household appliances; change of employer since last interview and
reasons for this; changes of job situation since last interview and
their connection with one´s own part-time work or return to full-time
work; time worked each week; amount of overtime; work days during the
week; desire for increased or reduced working hours; reasons for a
possible increase in working hours or decrease in working hours;
influence and attitude of partner to this change; time occupied by work
per day; hours for work taken home; information on activities and
occupations since last survey in monthly rotation; division of labor in
the household; relation to partner (scale); self-assessment of care
with which the housework is taken care of and possible improvements by
partner; division of tasks in raising and caring for children;
relationship to children; effects of reduced working hours on family
life (scale); time perspective for a change of current situation;
reasons for a desired increase in working hours or reduction; social
moral orientation (scale); social trends from which one feels
influence; experience with a group sharing a residence and length of
residence in such a group; importance of areas of life; psychological
self-characterization (scale); detailed information about the course of
terms of employment of partner; employment in civil service; company
size; receipt of public support; date of birth; possession of a
telephone; contentment with life currently and a year ago; willingness
to participate in a further interview.

The following question was also posed to respondents who in the
meantime had quit part-time work: reasons for quitting.

The following questions were additionally posed to househusbands who
had returned to employment: current employment status; reasons for
resumption of employment; attitude and influence of partner on
termination of status as househusband; the same employer as before the
time as househusband; comparison of current and earlier jobs; amount of
freedom of decision at work.

The following questions were additionally posed to respondents who are
still househusbands: desire for full-time or part-time employment;
desired number of hours each week.

Interviewer rating: presence of other persons and their degree of
relationship to respondent; intervention of other persons in the
interview; willingness to participate in the interview; assessment of
the reliability of information.

Also encoded was: length of interview; date of interview; sex of
interviewer and age of interviewer; same interviewer as with the first
panel interview.
