Images from a Watching Brief between Plawsworth and Pity Me, County Durham, 2023-2024

This collection comprises images from a watching brief that took place between Plawsworth and Pity Me, County Durham in advance of the development of a sewage main. The work was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology between July 2023 and January 2024. In Area 4, a semi-circular gully, linear ditch, three possible hearths/ovens, and seven small pits/postholes were recorded. No firm dating material was recovered from the features in Area 4, but they were in close proximity to geophysical anomalies that were previously interpreted as being prehistoric/Romano-British in origin. Therefore it is possible that the remains uncovered in Area 4 were also of prehistoric/Romano-British date.
