This dataset contains the raw data and results files from the article by Van Wassenbergh, Ortlieb, Mielke, Böhmer, Shadwick & Abourachid. This includes all high-speed video images of beak impacts that were used in the analyses. Raw kinematic data (pixel coordinates) with scale factors are also provided. A MATLAB Simulink model file for the multibody dynamics simulations of a woodpecker beak impacting wood are provided. Results from Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations of water-filled brain cavities under deceleration shocks give the raw data output to evaluate the inertial loading on the brains. More information on the content of the files is given in the README files.
