Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU), NHERI 2023: Downhole Seismic Direct Method at the Kawaihae Harbor in Hawaii

The project is about downhole seismic testing, through the direct method, that was conducted at Kawaihae Harbor to determine soil stiffness at the port. The data in this project can be reused by researchers because it provides information on liquefaction potential and how future earthquakes may affect the island. This project is unique because we used a conventional testing method, and we also did some testing at a site that few can access. The audience of my project are the researchers and people who live on the coast because they are the ones impacted by earthquakes the most. The information from this project can provide researchers with information on how to address issues caused by earthquakes.
