Distribution of pension fund assets globally 2023, by domicile and plan type

In 2023, North America had the largest share of defined benefit (DB) plans. A total 72 percent of funds in North America were DB plans, while the remaining 28 percent of funds were defined contribution (DC) plans. In that year, around 62.5 percent of the pension fund assets in the Asia-Pacific region and around 45.8 percent in Europe were defined benefit (DB) plans.
