Four different parameter sets used to fit data.

For data from Baylor's papers, for instance, all theoretical curves used the ‘BHL’ parameter set, with only the parameter varying to match amplitudes. The parameters for each author's data set were chosen by fitting routines as described in the Methods section. The values of were adjusted for each experiment as simple gain adjustments (accounting potentially for light alignment, etc.), but the remaining values were all held constant. Parameter values appearing in parentheses, in column B, were not fit, but instead were set to typical values (see Methods). Traces of the response to a flash superimposed upon a light background, for each of the three parameter sets, are displayed in Fig. 10C.
