The ACE-M1 investigation aims to study the behavior of microscopic particles in colloidal mixtures such as gels and creams. Objectives include the study of the physics of colloidal coarsening and the role of polydispersity (variation in particle size) in determining the stability of colloidal systems. Previous Earth-based experiments show that polydispersity dramatically affects the time it takes for these gels to collapse. The imaging goal was to observe crystallites and resolve particle centroid positions with less than 20% error.
