Treatment and Prognostication of Autoimmune Encephalitis

Autoimmune encephalitides comprises a diverse group of immune-mediated diseases of the central nervous system. Autoimmune encephalitis is a rare group of conditions, and detailed information about patient outcomes are limited. The work of this thesis contributed to the development of a national autoimmune encephalitis (AE) data-registry from ten Australian hospitals. From this dataset, clinical factors, MRI brain changes, and particular treatment strategies that predicted long-term patient outcomes were identified. Overall, this thesis provides a comprehensive collation of data to help improve management and disease prognostication in autoimmune encephalitis.
