Class Composition of the Contemporary Yugoslav Societies

The purpose of the present social stratification research is to investigate the social structure and class composition of the contemporary Yugoslav societies. Indices are forming the following groups: lodging-material standard, educational-professional status, media-cultural participation, political power - local level, economic power - the level of working organization, production relationships, indicators of consciousness (personality, national consciousness, political reliance, class perception, idea-political orientations). Specific topics deal with respondent's source of income, his employment status, level of education they reached, qualification, present job and first job. Same of those questions are repeated for respondent's partner, his parents and his elder child to allow the study of social mobility. Social consciousness is measured by attitudes toward traditionalism and the role of nation are presented. Selected scales measure political consciousness, ideology and values. Some of the questions reefer to intentions of schooling in the future. On a household level material status of members, source of income, quality of living, are described. Indicators are presented of social class for the respondent and his best friend, and social distance toward persons in particular profession, nationality and religion. Political activity of the respondent in the local environment is included as well as opinions about economic crisis, communist party and role of government. Free time activities includes hobbies, reading, watching TV. All standard socio-demographic data included: sex, age, education, region, size of household, income of the respondent and his household, employment status.
