We isolated a radioresistant bacetria Kocuria rosea RP1 from an irradiated environment. This strain exhibits significant antioxidant and DNA damage resistance ability. It can tolerate high concentrations of external hydrogen peroxide (200 mM), suggesting the presence of an effective oxidative stress repair system. Considering its strong resistance to oxidative stress and moderate resistance to ionizing radiation, K. rosea RP1 can be used as a biotechnology tool in the field of bioremediation, especially in radiation contaminated areas and nuclear waste sites containing hazardous mixtures of radionuclides, heavy metals, and other toxic chemicals.
