A comprehensive overview on fish multiple sex chromosomes and synthesis of available related information. Species order reflects their phylogenetic relationships (Betancur R et al. 2017). The taxonomy and inferences about current species numbers are actualized according to Catalog of Fishes (Fricke et al. 2020, 1^st November). The last column contains our synthesis and comments/opinion regarding the robustness of current data and taxonomic sampling, and possibly also updated view on the mechanistical basis, emergence and relationships between sex chromosomes among related species with the given taxon.
